Our team rehabilitated 3 hectares of habitat to support the vulnerable Powerful Owl (Ninox strenua) by achieving an 80% weed reduction along the three major stormwater drainage lines. We conducted infill planting of 3,000 local indigenous plants in areas previously cleared of weeds, promoting species abundance and enhancing the presence of existing, endemic, and remnant species within the area.

Project Outcomes:

Our team focused on maintaining and restoring the Endangered Ecological Communities of Swamp Oak Floodplain Forest, Swamp Sclerophyll Forest, and Sydney Freshwater Wetlands at Scarborough Ponds during the 2023-2024 contract period. We prioritised the Melaleuca Swamp Forest and previously revegetated areas, ensuring their resilience against invasive species.

Primary works targeted Erythrina sp. infestations, while regular maintenance controlled encroaching vines, grasses, and herbaceous weeds across the site. The extended warm season and frequent rain events resulted in significant weed blooms, requiring much of the effort to be focused on maintenance rather than expanding new restoration areas.

To further strengthen the site’s ecological recovery, 1,000 native tube stock plants were introduced, enhancing biodiversity and supporting future restoration efforts. Moving forward, maintaining established areas remains a priority before expanding primary works to new zones.

Project Outcomes:

Our team worked to restore and maintain the Endangered Ecological Community Swamp Sclerophyll Forest on Coastal Floodplain / Swamp Mahogany Forest in Warriewood Wetlands, adapting to the challenges of heavy rainfall and fluctuating hydrology. We focused on regular site monitoring, targeting exotic vines, annual weeds, and aquatic invasives like Ludwigia peruviana and Erythrina crista-galli. A balanced approach of spot spraying and manual removal allowed us to allocate resources effectively, prioritising degraded areas. With the support of Northern Beaches Council, we revegetated key zones, replacing dense woody weed incursions with native plantings. This methodical approach has proven successful.

Project Outcomes:

Between April and June 2024, our team successfully carried out targeted bush regeneration across eight key zones within Lane Cove National Park. Funded by the North Western Sydney Area of NPWS under the Visitor Precinct Improvement Program, this project focused on enhancing visual amenity and reducing weed densities in high-use areas.

Our efforts led to a significant reduction of woody weeds, exotic vines, and herbaceous weeds, particularly around high-visibility areas such as the entrance to the Great North Walk, the NPWS Depot slope, and the Kukundi play area. We also conducted follow-up and maintenance works to ensure long-term vegetation recovery.

Through these works, we contributed to the ecological health of the park, supporting native biodiversity and improving the visitor experience. Our team remains committed to the ongoing restoration of Lane Cove National Park and looks forward to continuing this important work.

Project Outcomes:

Prospect Nature Reserve spans approximately 3,392,500 m² and requires highly sensitive environmental management due to its role as a water source.

Our team carried out primary restoration work in the southern segment of the reserve, successfully removing over 1 hectare of woody weeds, primarily African Olive, Privet, and Lantana. This effort has facilitated the regeneration of a significant portion of the Endangered Cumberland Plain Woodland, contributing to the long-term ecological health of the site.

Ongoing restoration efforts will focus on maintaining weed control and supporting native vegetation recovery to enhance biodiversity and habitat resilience.

Project Outcomes:

Dragonfly Environmental have been working at Smalls Creek since 2019 under the supervision of multiple team leaders. This contract covers a large area of Smalls Creek, extending through Kellyville, Rouse Hill, and Beaumont Hills. David.C oversees a specific section of the project.

Our team successfully completed weed management and revegetation efforts at Smalls Creek. This included primary, secondary, and follow-up weeding across all required areas, along with targeted aquatic weed management. We monitored and treated remnant infestations of Alternanthera philoxeroides within the stream to support long-term ecological health.

Additionally, bush regeneration efforts involved reconstruction and in-fill planting, particularly in low-potential regeneration areas near the creek, following ongoing primary works. These efforts have contributed to the successful restoration and enhancement of the site’s native vegetation.

We are pleased to have secured a renewed contract. The project continues to make strong progress, with our team effectively restoring the site through targeted weed management and native vegetation regeneration.
